Exploration is one of the most relaxing aspects of Elite Dangerous. It can be financially lucrative if you take your time and scan every system you come across. Plus, you'll see some really cool stuff!

Here's a short video on a pair of very close binary moons revolving around a gas giant. This system is between Colonia and Sagittarius A*. The landing footage from the surface of the one to show how massive the other moon is on the horizon while the gas giant looms in the background. The fly-by gives it some context and scale of how close they are to each other. The moon I landed on only had 0.05 g gravity which is probably among the lowest I've been on.

If you've been building up your fortune in Elite Dangerous and found your favorite ship, you'll want to start engineering it to get the most out of it.

In this video, there's a crash site where CMDR Jameson met his untimely demise in his Cobra Mk III. This crash site is an easy place to farm encoded materials without having to worry about getting blown up.

The Jameson crash site is found on 1B of HIP 12099 at -54.3803, -50.3575 (longitude, latitude)

You can log out afterwards and log in right away to farm to your heart's content.

If you've been building up your fortune in Elite Dangerous and found your favorite ship, you'll want to start engineering it to get the most out of it.

In this video, there's a sweet little camp called Dav's Hope where you can farm lots of materials without having to worry about getting blown up.

Dav's Hope is found on A5 of Hyades Sector DR-V C2-23. It's extremely important to type the system in exactly so you don't end up going to the wrong system and waste a lot of time.

You can log out afterwards and log in right away to farm to your heart's content.

It's been a little while since I did a video. I actually recorded this last week but got a little sidetracked with some life stuff going on.

I was getting frustrated with some parts not printing as well as I wanted, so I took a step back and went through a battery of root cause analysis and corrective actions. The results were amazing! Plus I added some "quality of life" features that make printing easier, more reliable, and preventing some potential mechanical issues in the future!

Upgrades include:
-New housing for printer
-Fan shroud cover
-Filament guide
-Camera for Octoprint
-3D printed Raspberry Pi cover
-3D printed flex arm and housing for the camera

I did some redesigning of the fused carpals section, added hooks and orthodontic rubber bands as ligaments, added some grippers on the finger tips, and started modifying the tendons to add quick disconnects make modifications and repairs a lot easier.

About a week ago I posted a short "quick and dirty", un-narrated video of the robotic hand I've been working on. I hooked up fishing line to each of the phalanges and showed how the joints worked as designed.

In today's video I show some upgrades I made to the metacarpals and joints for better stability, organization, and mobility. I've been working on this about two weeks an it's turned out better than I expected!

I also walk through some of the reasoning for design changes, things I've noticed, a few challenges, a few printer upgrades (such as adding a glass bed to my 3D printer), and a lot more!

I've been busy designing and printing out a lot of parts for the robot arm on my Ender 3 3D printer and now they are all assembled! I'm no longer using Sketchup and have converted to using Fusion 360 completely. Since the conversion, Cura isn't having as many slicing issues so the robot arm turned out beautifully.

I'm currently designing a custom gripper that'll I'll unveil soon!

Deep core mining in Elite Dangerous can be very lucrative for making in-game credits and quickly upgrade to some high end ships. It's not an entirely intuitive process but I cover some of the issues and misconceptions about how to effectively and efficiently mine those sweet, sweet cores.

I rebuilt the base of the robot arm so it could support a lot more weight. I added a 2nd motor synchronized with the first to generate a lot more torque to move the arm closer to the "shoulder" and also above the elbow (or "forearm").

I can only use 3 driver control boards at the moment but the MCP23017 chips I purchased should do the trick. I'll cover that in the next video since there are a lot of RPi updates I have to finish before that'll work.

I'll add the link to the source of the Python code I started with as a reference when I find it (I found it a month ago but can't remember where). I modified it to run 2 motors in sync.

I've always been interested in STEM related stuff - a thirst for understanding how and why stuff works. My college background is in organic chemistry but my career after graduating took me on a very different path! Over the last 20+ years I've worked in manufacturing, small business, aerospace, pharmaceuticals manufacturing, and more. Work has sent me around the US, Mexico, and Europe. I've seen a LOT of really cool tech and met some brilliant folks from all around the globe!

My brain literally never shuts off. I'm always looking stuff up, reading, or tinkering with something. I play video games to try to unwind and give my brain a different type of workout. Even then, I find myself dissecting the games I'm playing and figuring out how they work, too, haha.
